In 1965, two existing Baton Rouge Jaycee projects, a trade show and a carnival, were combined to form the Greater Baton Rouge State Fair. For many years, the fair was the number one fundraiser in the national Jaycee organization until 1985 when the Greater Baton Rouge State Fair Foundation was formed to take over the management of the fair and property. The current fair location is a 100-acre fairgrounds on Airline Highway. It is used for one month of the year to hold the fair, and the property is now part of the 150-acre BREC Airline Highway/Fairgrounds.
Hurricanes have taken their toll on the State Fair — Hurricane Juan in 1985; and Hurricanes Katrina and Rita in 2005. In 2005, FEMA used the grounds as a staging area for their equipment to be used in relief areas and the fair was cancelled as thoughts and efforts went to helping neighbors through tough times.

The 11 days of family fun will include carnival rides, nightly entertainment, food booths showcasing our amazing South Louisiana cuisine, a beer garden, petting zoo, agriculture and livestock showings, and the exhibit building will be open for gifts and handmade crafts. Check the website for a schedule of events.
Plan now to attend the Greater Baton Rouge State Fair and make memories that will last a lifetime! Please consider reserving your room at The Stockade Bed and Breakfast, located only 10 miles from the festival grounds.
